The 5G-PHOS project aims to realize cost-effective and energy-efficient 5G network solutions for high density use cases by exploiting converged optical wireless network solutions. 5G-PHOS is the first coordinated attempt that will draw from existing scientific results in the area of photonics in order to architect 5G networks for dense, ultra-dense and Hot-Spot areas incorporating Photonic Integrated Circuits in optical mmWave signal generation, DSP-assisted optical transmission, reconfigurable optical add/drop multiplexing and optical beamforming functionalities. 5G-PHOS targets to design and demonstrate a seamless, interoperable, RAT-agnostic and SDN-programmable FiWi 5G network that supports MIMO antennas and offers up to 400 Gb/s wireless data rate in high density city areas.

Iquadrat will contribute to the 5G-PHOS project by designing, developing and evaluating novel medium-transparent dynamic bandwidth allocation schemes for the 5G-PHOS optical-wireless network solution, which target to optimize the system’s throughput and end-to-end packet delay. The developed solutions will be applied to various scenarios (dense, ultra dense and Hot-Spot areas). In parallel, Iquadrat will investigate a cooperative radio-optical coordinated multi-point communications for intelligent interference coordination and cancellation, which will be applied to the 5G-PHOS centralized network approach. Moreover, Iquadrat will work towards the deployment of an SDN control plane for the orchestration of the 5G-PHOS network for the design, deployment, customization, and optimization of different network slices and resources, by utilizing its powerful SDN-enabled 5G testbed.
